Up to 61% of men and 51% of women in the United States have reported experiencing some type of traumatic event in their lifetime. For those individuals in a public behavioral health care setting, that number increases to 90 percent. Often these events can have an impact on the individual’s physical health. How can providers and care teams navigate the challenges associated with trauma and provide a safe and inclusive environment for vulnerable populations?

In this session you will learn to:

  • Explain the biopsychosocial trauma responses
  • Recognize and manage triggers, signs, and symptoms of trauma in patients, families, and staff members
  • Take steps to be intentional about treating the whole person when trauma is a component
