Doug Foote has been engaged in the practice of law since 1968. He focuses on serving the needs of entrepreneurs and small and medium sized businesses and their owners and executives in the areas of domestic and international business transactions; business entity selection, organization and governance; contracts; corporate law; financing, including debt and private equity transactions; mergers and acquisitions; employment and general business law. He also counsels and represents lawyers and law firms on matters of legal ethics.
In addition to providing legal counsel, Doug has served as CEO, COO, and CFO of companies in the medical device, environmental, and engineering and consulting fields. His representation and advice reflect an experience-based understanding of the effects of legal issues and advice in real-world business situations.
Doug is a member of the Bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, Colorado and Connecticut and the U.S. Court of International Trade; the Colorado Bar Association (Ethics Committee 1987-, Chair 1998-99) (Chair, Joint Task Force on Multidisciplinary Practice of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations) (Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation); American Bar Association (Business Law Section and Center for Professional Responsibility); and the Harvard Business School Club of Colorado. He is past-president of the Colorado Association of Corporate Counsel. For many years, Doug taught business law in undergraduate business programs and in post-graduate MBA programs, as well as serving on the faculty of the Regis University School of Pharmacy and as Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Law at the University of Colorado Denver School of Pharmacy.
He is a director, treasurer and member of the executive committee of HealthTeamWorks, a non-profit multi-stakeholder collaborative working to redesign the healthcare delivery system and promote integrated communities of care, using evidence based medicine and innovative systems. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy and continued in active reserve service, retiring as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School; earned an LL.M. in International Law at King’s College, University of London; a J.D., Order of the Coif, at the University of Colorado; and a B.S.B.A. in Finance, summa cum laude, at the University of Denver. He also holds a Diploma in Chinese Law from the University of East Asia (now East Asia College, University of Macau), earned while living in Hong Kong.
