Jim Burkhart has led a number of healthcare organizations over the past 35 years. Most recently he was President and CEO of Tampa General Hospital (TGH). TGH is a tertiary-level teaching facility that is affiliated with the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Both faculty and private physicians practice at this 1,018 bed acute care hospital whose services include organ transplant, comprehensive burn care and pediatric trauma care. Prior to TGH Jim was the President and CEO of the University of Florida (UF) & Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with 695 licensed beds. Similar to TGH, this health system is a private, not-for-profit institution that is a safety net hospital for Florida’s under insured and uninsured patient populations. Jim’s practice specialties include academic medical centers, integrated physician models, supply chain optimization and academic relationships.

Jim earned his Doctorate of Science degree in Administrative Health Services as well as a Master of Hospital and Healthcare Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Biology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
